Six people, including three children, were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out in a mobile home on the 900 block of Pauline Street in Highlands, east Harris County, shortly after midnight. The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office said the victims suffered smoke inhalation and burn injuries, with two men and a woman in critical condition and the three children in stable condition, according to Click2Houston.
One person jumped from a window to escape the flames, and firefighters rescued two more people from inside the home. Multiple agencies responded, including Highlands, Channelview, Crosby, and Sheldon fire departments, along with Baytown EMS, and one victim was flown by LifeFlight due to the severity of injuries.
Houston Chronicle reported that the victims in the fire were a grandfather, father, mother, and their children. The Harris County Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause and has not released any early findings. The Fire Marshal’s Office also issued a safety reminder ahead of the holidays. Public Information Officer Brandi Dumas said, “We're going to be visiting a lot of people and in areas we don't know and our children don't know,” and advised families to test smoke alarms once a month, know two exits, and set a meeting place to avoid anyone going back into a burning home.
