Tacoma City Council is actively seeking volunteers to step into six open roles on the Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority Board (TCRA), announcing the call for CPA representatives, bank and finance pros, and seasoned real estate brokers. These roles are critical for guiding grants and loans aimed at lifting low-income households and supporting multi-family housing projects, businesses that create jobs, and non-profits that fuel housing and economic growth in Tacoma, according to a recent report.
The five current board members, each bringing a wealth of experience in accounting, banking, financing, and real estate, have terms nearing their end but they too have the chance to throw their hats back in the ring for another term, which is an opportunity that speaks to the ongoing commitment and continuous effort to sustain and foster community development, and the people of Tacoma are all the better for it. Meetings, critical to this board's function, occur twice a month throughout most of the year, switching to a slightly adjusted schedule come the holiday season in November and December, giving ample opportunity for members to partake in the decision-making process, whether they choose to attend in person or log in virtually.
Reflecting the city's broader goals, the board prioritizes equity and anti-racist practices, opening its doors wide to applicants from all walks of life—BIPOC individuals, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, seniors, youth, and Tacoma's immigrant and refugee populations. Those appointed to these roles will also have to complete vital training on the Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act, adding another layer of responsibility to the positions, as outlined in the city's announcement.
For more information on the TCRA and details about the application process, assimilating requirements, meeting schedules, and agendas, potential applicants and interested observers can visit the city's website or reach out to Elizabeth Wing in the City Clerk's Office before the application deadline on November 24 ensuring that all questions are answered and the process remains as transparent and as accessible as possible to all who wish to serve Tacoma's evolving needs.
