
A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run and reckless driving incident on the West Seattle Bridge on Saturday night, according to the Seattle Police Department's Blotter. The teen, whose identity has not been disclosed due to his age, reportedly was driving at high speeds without headlights when he collided with another vehicle, both heading westbound on the bridge, just past 11:00 p.m. on Oct 11.
Witnessed by a patrol officer, the suspect's car ended up crashing into a barrier at the Delridge Way Southwest off-ramp after the initial collision, which caused the occupants to flee on foot, the Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene provided medical aid to a 45-year-old man and woman who sustained minor injuries from the victim vehicle, the Seattle Police Department apprehended the teenage driver when he returned to the scene during their investigation of the accident.
Following the ordeal, police administered care to two of the passengers who had returned with the driver; they, too, had minor injuries and were treated by SFD before being transported to the hospital. The teen was issued a citation not only for his involvement in the hit and run but also for failing to provide proof of insurance and for inconsistencies between the car registration and its mismatched license plate. Ultimately, the underage driver was released into the custody of a family member from the Southwest Precinct.
The suspect's car, which police report sustained significant damage from the series of crashes, was impounded from where it stood disabled post-collision; meanwhile, the investigation into the incident remains ongoing as officers piece together the exact sequence of the night's hazardous events, and the impact it has on those involved, directly and peripherally alike.
