Dr. May Lau has surrendered her Texas medical license following a lawsuit by Attorney General Ken Paxton over her prescriptions of what he termed "dangerous" gender transition drugs to minors. The surrender signifies the culmination of a contentious legal struggle and effectively ends Lau's medical practice in the state.
Prior to this resolution, a Rule 11 agreement had been brokered, as per reports from the Office of the Attorney General of Texas, stipulating that Lau stop her medical practice during the ongoing legal proceedings. Despite surrendering her license, the case against her continues, focusing on allegations of unlawfully administering cross-sex hormones to children.
Attorney General Paxton, whose office has characterized Lau's actions as experimental and harmful, stated on the Office of the Attorney General of Texas, "Doctors who permanently hurt kids by giving them experimental drugs are nothing more than disturbed left-wing activists who have no business being in the medical field." He further underscored the implications of Lau's decision to relinquish her license, saying, "May Lau has done untold damage to children, both physically and psychologically, and the surrendering of her Texas medical license is a major victory for our state," illustrating the depth of the legal battle and the administration's stance on the matter.
The legal action against Lau reflects ongoing debates regarding medical treatments for gender dysphoria in minors, involving ethical, legal, and medical discussions about consent, autonomy, and the role of government in health care decisions. The case concerning allegations that Lau violated state law by providing cross-sex hormones to minors remains ongoing, with proceedings expected to draw continued public and legal attention.
