This morning, a fire erupted at the Farmington Plaza Apartments in Oakland County, resulting in injuries to three residents. The blaze, which officials say began around 3:20 a.m. at the complex on Shiawassee Street, was confined to one apartment on the first floor, but the resulting smoke and water damage impacted surrounding units, ClickOnDetroit reports.
The individuals injured were discovered outside of the building and subsequently transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital and Corewell Health; however, the extent of their injuries remains unconfirmed. As fire crews arrived to battle the fire, they encountered significant flames and smoke, CBS News Detroit has learned, with an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the conflagration.
In the aftermath of the inferno, the affected block of the apartment complex has been left without gas or electricity, complicating the recovery efforts for residents. The fire not only damaged the apartment of its origin but also extended to the unit above, leading to an overall impact on four apartment units, according to WXYZ.
As of this morning, authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, with investigations ongoing. Firefighters and police personnel remained on the scene as of 8:10 a.m., ensuring the safety of the building's structural integrity and investigating the origin and cause of the fire. The community grapples with the immediate needs for assistance and the long-term implications of displacement and loss for those residents affected by the fire's wrath.
