Two individuals were apprehended following a high-speed chase on the streets of Los Angeles, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles. The pursuit began on Sunday evening when Los Angeles Police Department officers engaged in a chase of a suspect wanted for assault with a deadly weapon. The chase, which unfolded throughout the downtown neighborhoods, saw the suspect alternating between varying speeds, sometimes slowing down and at other times exceeding the speed limit. They navigated through stop lights and even took to the wrong side of the road in an effort to avoid traffic.
According to the same source, the escapade continued onto the 110 Freeway and later the 105, leading the suspect towards the Los Angeles International Airport. Near W. 24th Street and Hill Street in Central City, the situation reached a turning point as the passenger of the white sedan fled on foot, and the driver, forcibly removed from the vehicle, was handcuffed by police. Eventually, the passenger was reported to be in custody roughly five minutes after attempting to escape.
Complementary details on the incident were provided by NBC Los Angeles, which identified the pursuit starting around 5:30 p.m. in the Pico-Union area. The chase involved at least ten police vehicles, all following a white Toyota Camry. The driver's path led them onto the northbound 110 Freeway, to the westbound 10 Freeway, and eventually to Maple Street.
The pursuit ended near a large car meet in South LA, where more complications arose. After running a red light at the 23rd Street and Broadway Boulevard intersection, the suspect's vehicle arrived at 24th Street amid dozens of parked cars. One occupant attempted to blend in with the crowd to escape arrest before both he and the vehicle's driver were taken into custody. Further details on the suspects' identities have not been disclosed.
