The University of North Texas (UNT) Police Department has issued a crime alert following a series of electric scooter and e-bike thefts on campus. According to an update from the UNT Police Department's social media, although one suspect has been apprehended and five scooters have been recovered, thefts are persisting throughout the area.

In light of these incidents, the UNT Police are advocating for increased vigilance amongst students and staff, suggesting several measures to safeguard their personal electric vehicles. "Use a high-security U-lock," the UNT Police recommended, emphasizing the need for strong physical security. Adding to the deterrents, they advise fitting a GPS tracker, suggesting the simple act of removing the battery when the vehicle is not in use, and urging owners to engrave an ID number in a less obvious area of the scooter.

While efforts to combat the thefts are ongoing, the police are also appealing to the community for assistance. They have asked that anyone with information about the thefts get in touch by calling the UNT Police at 940-565-3006 or by submitting tips anonymously at 940-369-TIPS (8477).
