Long Beach saw an outbreak of violence last night as an altercation on Peterson Avenue escalated into an assault with a deadly weapon. According to the Long Beach Police Department blotter released on October 19, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Peterson Avenue following reports of an assault.
Upon their arrival at the scene at approximately 7:39 p.m. on October 18, authorities found a male victim who had been attacked with a bladed weapon. The incident stemmed from what appeared to be a verbal dispute that quickly turned violent, led to the assault, and resulted in the victim suffering a non-life-threatening injury to his upper body. The victim was then attended by Long Beach Fire personnel and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the suspect, another adult male, had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Investigators from the Long Beach Police Department are delving into the motives and finer details of this confrontation as the circumstances that surrounded this near-fatal encounter remain unclear. There have been no arrests made in this case thus far, and authorities are likely seeking additional witnesses or evidence that could facilitate the apprehension and prosecution of the assailant.
