In law enforcement, dogs serve as essential partners in maintaining public safety. Earlier this month, K9 Razor and handler Deputy Kalish from Washington County, Wisconsin, earned 3rd place in the “Patrol Challenge” at the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Handlers Association (WILECHA) training conference. The event featured about 175 K9 teams from across the state.
According to a Washington County Sheriff's Office's Facebook post, the challenge tested coordination between deputy and canine through a timed building search inside a vacant hospital. The search included multiple rooms and concealed areas to mimic real-life conditions. K9 Razor and Deputy Kalish successfully located a decoy suspect hidden behind a false wall in just over a minute.
Sheriff Schulteis stated that K9s like Razor are vital in law enforcement operations, assisting in locating suspects and missing persons. He noted that their success reflects the dedication and training of their handlers.
The WILECHA conference highlighted the importance of K9 units and the intensive preparation required for these teams. The performance of Deputy Kalish and K9 Razor demonstrates the high level of professionalism within the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
