Washington D.C. is gearing up for a wave of mixed weather conditions starting with clear skies and mild temperatures this morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). With a high of 77 degrees forecasted today, the city will experience increasing clouds as the day progresses. Winds from the south will pick up, reaching speeds of 6 to 16 mph and gusts as high as 32 mph.
The weather will take a turn tonight, with the NWS warning of showers and thunderstorms before 4 am followed by a slight chance of showers after 5 am. Caught in the south wind, which is expected to reach 10 to 14 mph before becoming westward after midnight, temperatures will drop to a low around 51 degrees. Gusts might whip up as high as 25 mph with a new rainfall between half an inch and three quarters of an inch possible.
Looking ahead at the week, tomorrow will offer a retreat from the tumult with a mostly sunny day and a high near 66 degrees. There will be a notable presence of a west wind ranging from 13 to 15 mph, accompanied by gusts that could reach as high as 26 mph. As the sun sets, clear skies will dominate, and temperatures will decline to a low of about 44 degrees, with the west wind calming to about 6 mph.
The NWS also signals a Coastal Flood Warning in effect for the shoreline of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, which extends from 2 pm to 8 pm today. The serene transition into Tuesday promises sunshine and highs nearing 70 degrees, with light south winds picking up speed in the morning—potentially gusting to 18 mph. As for Tuesday night, the forecast hints at the chance of showers, mainly before 2 am, with a 30% chance of precipitation and a tentative low around 50 degrees.
Favoring outdoor plans, the NWS anticipates sunny conditions with highs in the mid-60s for Wednesday and Thursday, followed by mostly clear nights with lows in the mid-40s. The weather pattern is set to continue into Friday and Saturday with sunny and partly sunny days, respectively, and highs hovering around the low 60s.
While no hazardous weather is expected after tonight, area residents were alerted today by the NWS to the possibility of "gusty showers and isolated thunderstorms," which could potentially unleash damaging wind gusts or even a brief tornado. Advisories may be issued for the waters if conditions warrant. For now, spotter activation is not currently anticipated.
