The City of Melvindale experienced a widespread water outage yesterday, prompting a response from local officials and disrupting daily routines for residents. According to WXYZ, the outage led to early dismissals at Melvindale-North Allen Park Public Schools and resulted in a city-wide boil water advisory. Residents were instructed to boil water for at least one minute and allow it to cool before use.

A drop in water pressure was to rapidly be rectified by city crews, said officials, who also mentioned that bacterial contamination might have occurred during the incident. The city took to Facebook to acknowledge the problem and outline their immediate actions which include restoring pressure and flushing the system. "The City of Melvindale is working to get pressure restored, and water staff will be taking other remedial actions such as flushing and collecting bacteriological samples from around the system," according to the statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit.

The loss of water pressure that led to the shutdown is being carefully investigated, with CBS Detroit explaining that water samples will be taken to ensure the safety and quality of the municipal water meets Michigan standards. Officials anticipate the boil water advisory could remain in place from 24 to 48 hours as they work to resolve the issue thoroughly.

Communication with the public is being conducted mainly through online platforms, with updates to be provided via the city's website and social media. "There is currently a citywide water outage. We are aware of the issue and will update as soon as it is resolved," the city stated in an online post shared by FOX 2 Detroit. Meanwhile, residents like Angela Phipps expressed concerns on the city’s Facebook page saying, "They didn’t give us any warning as to an interruption in service."
