Wilmington Police have arrested someone in connection with an assault that took place last week, as Wilmington residents were going about their early morning routines on October 25. A call reporting the assault was answered by the Uniformed Services Division at around 8:33 a.m. on the unit block of South Bancroft Parkway, placing the incident amidst the comings and goings of the neighborhood's start to the day.
The case quickly moved from the hands of first responders to the more meticulous eyes of the Criminal Investigations Division, picking up steam as Detective Avery Stewart took the helm, according to a report from the Wilmington Police Department. Stewart's work led to the identification of 41-year-old Todd Drozdowski as a suspect in the case, with warrants swiftly following for his arrest. This development unfolded rapidly in the days after the assault, illustrating the department's determined pursuit of resolution and justice.
Police efforts culminated on October 28 when Drozdowski was located and apprehended in the area of West 2nd and North Franklin Streets, marking an end to what was likely a period of uncertainty and concern for those touched by the incident. His arrest proceeded without notable event, ensuring no further harm or disruption to the community was brought about by his apprehension.
Following his arrest, Drozdowski has been charged with second-degree assault, a clear label on the accusations he now faces in the aftermath of that October morning. After an arrangement in Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, securing him away from public streets, the same courts and facilities that churn in endless cycles, processing charges, pleas, and incarcerations have now taken him into their fold pending further proceedings, as reported in the official police communication.
The case's progression from the initial response to detectives' investigation, and now to the formalities of the judiciary, paints a picture of the systems at work in Wilmington – systems that are designed to respond, to identify, and to hold individuals accountable for breaches of the community's safety and order.
