A Zanesville man has pleaded guilty to a string of charges, including receiving stolen property and having weapons while under disability. Schuyler Green, 29, appeared in Muskingum County Court of Common Pleas, admitting to eleven counts, with the state prosecutor and defense suggesting a five-year sentence, as detailed in a report from the Muskingum County Prosecutor's Office. Sentencing will be decided at a future court date.
Details of the case emerged after an incident on May 17, when the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to calls of a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway in Nashport. Upon arrival, officers suspected Green, the driver of the vehicle, to be intoxicated—a scenario that turned more complex as deputies discovered stolen items in his possession. Among these items were two dirt bikes, a semi-automatic handgun, and several others that homeowners in the vicinity reported missing.
Further inquiry revealed the vehicle operated by Green was also obtained through theft. Residents in the nearby area confirmed the items found in Green's vehicle matched those lifted from their properties. The confirmation of these stolen goods matched with the items recovered by deputies, establishing the connective thread to the series of thefts and leading to Green's current legal predicaments.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Warren Edwards represented the State in court, where the five-year joint sentence recommendation was put forth. As the case moves towards sentencing, there remains the stark reality of the consequences that await Green. The actual sentencing date for Green has yet to be announced by a court official.
