According to the N.C. Office of State Human Resources’ announcement, Governor Josh Stein commended the workers, saying, "I applaud this year’s recipients of the Governor’s Awards for Excellence for their work to support North Carolinians," and noted their embodiment of "the highest ideals of public service." The event, sponsored by the State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation and hosted by ABC11 anchor DeJuan Hoggard, culminated with a reception at the Executive Mansion, an occasion for honorees to be celebrated in a more intimate setting.
The actions that merited this year's recognition span a range of commendable efforts: from providing life-saving aid during Hurricane Helene, to enhancing public education, to technological innovations. State Human Resources Director Staci Meyer acknowledged the significance of these achievements, stating, "Of this year’s 372 nominations, these 22 state employees stood out for their dedication, bravery, and innovative thinking," and went on to express personal pride in working alongside such individuals. Within the cited categories, distinct actions such as creating groundbreaking technologies, improving customer service, and acts of heroism were among the reasons these recipients stood out.
