A tragic incident unfolded in Greenfield on Saturday evening when a 61-year-old man was fatally struck by a Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) bus. WISN 12 News reports that Greenfield police came upon the scene at approximately 6:49 p.m., responding to a welfare check of a man lying motionless on the ground at the intersection of South 56th Street and West Forest Home Avenue.

According to the officers, the man, later identified as George R. Kayser, was found to have a head injury. Despite immediate lifesaving attempts, he succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital. In the ongoing investigation by local authorities, it has been found that at the intersection, the bus traveling eastbound and the victim somehow met their tragic rendezvous. No passengers aboard were reported injured as detailed by FOX6 News.

The 55-year-old bus driver, a Milwaukee resident, was not injured during the incident. "The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation into the cause of the accident," notes the Journal Sentinel. He is currently on administrative leave, which MCTS states is standard protocol following such events. The Wisconsin State Patrol has been called in to assist with reconstructing the accident scene to glean further insights into how the collision occurred.

MCTS has expressed its condolences over the incident, extending its sympathy to the family and friends of Kayser. Greenfield Police, along with MCTS and Wisconsin State Patrol, remain active in the investigation to uncover the circumstances that led to this unfortunate fatality. "The circumstances surrounding this fatal incident are under active investigation," MCTS said in a statement obtained by WISN 12 News.
