The New York Transit Museum, in partnership with the MTA, has announced the return of its annual Holiday Nostalgia Train. The museum’s historic 1930s transit cars will operate every Sunday in December from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., providing rides through the city’s subway system, as stated by ABC7 New York.

For the standard fare of $2.90 with a MetroCard, riders can board the vintage subway cars, which were part of the city’s transit system during the Depression era and feature original rattan seats, ceiling fans, and period advertisements, as reported by AM New York. Passengers can access the special train at designated stops along the uptown F line starting at 2 Av-Houston St or the downtown Q line from 96 St-2 Av.

Regina Shepherd, acting director of the New York Transit Museum, told AM New York, “There’s something magical about seeing our vintage subway cars filled with holiday cheer.” She noted that the experience offers a distinctive way to travel while also connecting riders to New York’s transit history and its role in the city’s cultural story.

In addition to the moving museum on rails, the New York Transit Museum will host its annual Holiday Train Show at Grand Central Terminal, opening on Nov. 13. The exhibit features miniature trains navigating a 34-foot replica of the city, including a detailed model of Grand Central Terminal, as noted by AM New York.
