Anne Arundel County is set to bolster its traffic surveillance network by adding more speed cameras targeting school zones. These cameras are slated to go live on November 17 and will be enforcing speed limits from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. There will be a 15-day grace period during which drivers will receive warnings instead of fines. According to WMAR-2 News, this measure comes as part of an ongoing effort to enhance road safety in areas where young students are regularly present.

The locations earmarked for these new cameras include Tracy’s Elementary School on Deale Road, Central Middle School on Central Avenue, and Southern Middle and High Schools on Solomons Island Road, as well as Davidsonville Elementary School on W Central Avenue.

As these new eyes in the sky come online, authorities wish to remind locals of the importance of driving safely, especially in school precincts. In an illustration of the ongoing commitment to these efforts, Eye On Annapolis highlighted that these camera systems are a part of the Automated Traffic Enforcement Speed Program, initiated in June 2024.
