The legal community has just cast a spotlight on Assistant Attorney General John L. Thurber for his stellar professional conduct. The Ingham County Bar Association awarded Thurber with the prestigious Theodore W. Swift Civility Award. This recognition is all about honoring legal minds who conduct themselves with an exceptional level of civility in their interactions with everyone from judges and peers to their clients and the public at large, as reported by the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
Michigan's own Attorney General Dana Nessel was present to make the announcement, lauding Thurber's "[n]early three decades" of service marked by "professionalism, civility and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law," according to a statement released by the Michigan Department of Attorney General. Thurber's career, so deeply interwoven with the narrative of Michigan's legal landscape, is known not only for its duration but for the substance and impact of his efforts.
With credentials stretching back to a BA in History from Kenyon College in 1990 followed by a JD from the University of Detroit School of Law in 1993, Thurber's career is nothing short of exemplary. His admission to the State Bar of Michigan shortly after his graduation kickstarted a tenure at the Department of Attorney General that began in March 1996. As of now, he's an assistant attorney general stationed within the Alcohol & Gambling Enforcement Division, as per the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
