A teenager has been convicted for the capital murder of his girlfriend’s grandmother in Bacliff, leading to an automatic life sentence without the possibility of parole. Uriah Urick, faced a five-day trial, and on Friday, was found guilty in the February 2025 slaying of 61-year-old Tammy King, as reported by Click2Houston. The Galveston County Sheriff, Jimmy Fullen, in reference to the verdict said, "Justice has been served for Tammy King and her loved ones."
Authorities believe Urick and his girlfriend, Tara King, plotted the murder, subsequently stealing money from Tammy’s safe, which escalated the crime to capital murder. They were apprehended in Laredo on February 9, according to KHOU. Tara King, who is also charged with capital murder, is scheduled for trial in January.
Investigative details pointed to a crime motivated by a dispute over school attendance, with additional chilling evidence involving financial theft. Court documents revealed that thousands of dollars had been transferred from Tammy King's account to Tara's Cash App, with several unsuccessful attempts to transfer larger sums. Notably, another unknown person was linked to the Cash App account, as found by detectives, as per KHOU.
In the backdrop of this crime, Urick's mother described her son as having a history fraught with anxiety, depression, and violent tendencies. According to KHOU, the mother believed that her son was capable of such an act, based on his history of self-harm and aggression. The narrative of a disturbed youth was further emphasized by accounts of Urick threatening his stepfather and being abusive towards siblings. Urick's stepfather also shared concerns, fearing such violent capacity in Urick. Despite these efforts, the pair were ultimately captured with the help of the Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force.
The story revealed disturbing details about storing and selling guns, as well as false claims of abuse that Tara shared on Instagram to get help. Court documents showed that one woman told detectives Tara had admitted to killing Tammy and stealing money and guns while high on meth. Further legal proceedings are expected to cast more light on Tara King’s involvement and alleged culpability in January when she stands trial for her grandmother’s murder, as reported by KHOU.
