After sitting vacant for more than a year, the old Walmart building on Putty Hill Avenue in Towson may soon be bustling with activity again, this time as a BJ’s Wholesale Club. According to a report by WMAR-2 News, the wholesale giant has sown seeds for a new development at the location where Walmart once served the community before closing due to "low performance."
The departure of the retail giant left a substantial 155,000 square-foot space unoccupied attracting concern from Towson residents, but projections indicate that the vacancy will persist only until BJ's Wholesale Club kicks off its construction period, which is tentatively slated for 2027, following the necessary nods from Baltimore County officials, leading to a new chapter for the site with BJ’s hopeful opening in mid-2028, as per a statement obtained by NottinghamMD.
While the plans await several approvals, the initiative appears to be moving ahead as speculation turns to concrete planning stages.
