Over $800,000 worth of narcotics were intercepted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry on Wednesday last week. The seizure occurred when officers referred a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban for additional inspection at the Camino Real International Bridge. During the secondary examination, officers found five plastic bottles containing what is believed to be methamphetamine, weighing a total of 88.8 pounds. The estimated street value of the drugs is approximately $816,556, as per the U.S. Customs and Border Protection release.
According to Port Director Pete Beattie, the narcotics were seized, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents have taken over the ongoing investigation.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection stated that the agency remains focused on enforcing laws that ensure safe travel and trade. The agency employs more than 65,000 personnel responsible for maintaining security by air, sea, and land, using methods that include innovation, intelligence, and collaboration.
