The much-anticipated Chesapeake Bay Bridge Run, which invites participants to race across the iconic bridge, was abruptly canceled this Sunday due to unfavorable weather conditions. The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) declared that both spans of the bridge will remain open to cars, scrapping the event's original plan to facilitate tens of thousands of runners heading from Anne Arundel County to Kent Island. This decision came as a surprise to many, considering the event was sold out and expected to draw a massive crowd, mirroring its success from previous years.
In an update reported by Fox Baltimore, organizers of the Bay Bridge Run conveyed a message of profound disappointment. They stated, "We regret to inform you due to the forecast and a higher than acceptable chance of inclement weather, the Bay Bridge Run has been canceled and will not take place as scheduled on Sunday, November 9, 2025. THE EVENT WILL NOT BE RESCHEDULED." The cancellation pivots thousands of participants to a virtual experience, with the promise that medals and refunds for add-ons will be processed in the following weeks.
More details were shared by CBS NWS, explaining that the event, often joined in partnership with charity groups, doubles as a fundraiser for the First Responders of the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department. Last year’s run saw an impressive turnout with participants from across the nation and several countries. However, heavy rainfall and safety concerns ultimately guided MDTA's decision to put a halt to this communal tradition for the current year.
