Two sisters found themselves entangled with the law after an eventful Uber ride that ended at the corner of N. High St. and E. 5th Ave in Columbus. La'Myiah Higgins-Garner is facing charges for receiving stolen property, while her sister, Enijia Griffin-Braxton, has been charged with credit card theft, as announced in a social media post by the Columbus Division of Police.
According to the police's account, the incident occurred last Friday night and came to light when Ms. Higgins-Garner, along with Ms. Griffin-Braxton, exited their Uber, at which point it was discovered that Ms. Griffin-Braxton had lifted the Uber driver's wallet, throwing the wallet to the ground and it was then retrieved by Ms. Higgins-Garner who decided to slip it into her purse.
Once stopped by patrol officers, it was confirmed that Ms. Higgins-Garner indeed had the wallet in her possession. This critical piece of the narrative was shared in the Columbus Division of Police's statement, "Ms. Higgins-Garner still had the wallet in her purse," upon being questioned by the officers present at the scene. The seemingly straightforward accusation of these charges, however, underscores a sequence of choice and consequence that extends beyond just a singular event—theft and the subsequent reception by one's kin.
