
The Columbus Division of Police has announced the arrest of Deswquan Woods-Fafahana in the murder of J'Vontia Cassell. The details emerged on social media, with the police department updating the public about the case that stemmed from a September incident. According to a Facebook post by the Columbus Division of Police, Woods-Fafahana was taken into custody by the CPD SWAT team on October 31, following a murder warrant filed against him.
The chain of events leading to the arrest began in the early morning hours of September 21. Officers were called to the 1100 block of N. High St. on a disturbance report. Upon arrival, gunshots were heard, leading to the discovery of 25-year-old Cassell suffering from gunshot wounds. He was swiftly transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Columbus Division of Police shared that the incident occurred at approximately 2:43 a.m., and Cassell's time of death was noted as 5:01 a.m.
Woods-Fafahana, 19, became the prime suspect in the case. Through diligent investigation, authorities amassed enough evidence to issue a murder warrant against him. The arrest came after over a month's effort by the Columbus police, and the specific circumstances of how they came to apprehend Woods-Fafahana remain unreported.
