Cy-Fair ISD plans to introduce new virtual learning programs for the 2026-27 school year, including the Virtual Academy, Flex Learning, and Supplemental Courses. CFISD Director Dr. Meredith Akers said “Online learning is not the next big thing, it is the now big thing,” and noted that about 40% of surveyed families are interested in more flexible online options. The Virtual Academy will start with fourth and fifth graders and high school students, with middle school grades to follow. The district also plans to add more Flex Learning courses and virtual summer school by 2028, according to Click2Houston.
Cy-Fair ISD will offer three online learning options for students. The Virtual Academy lets students log in daily and work at their own pace, with a few required online sessions each week, and still join some on-campus activities. Flex Learning is for juniors and seniors who want to take up to two courses online to adjust their schedules, as per ABC13. Supplemental Courses help students recover credits or take extra classes outside regular school hours.
CFISD’s Virtual Academy will offer core subjects, electives, advanced placement, CTE classes, and dual-credit courses with Lone Star College. All online pathways follow the district’s curriculum and are taught by CFISD teachers. Dr. Akers said, "Our goal is to give families more reasons to choose CFISD," as reported by Click2Houston. The programs allow students to stay connected to campus. The district is still finalizing plans for tracking student progress and meeting technology needs.
