The City of Dallas has issued its November newsletter for District 4, which highlights local community engagement efforts and residents' concerns. According to the newsletter published on November 3rd, 2025, Councilmember Maxie Johnson underscored the city's commitment to partnering with the community to foster stronger and more vibrant neighborhoods. The newsletter emphasized the city's focus on "Building the Community with the Community," a mantra meant to indicate collaboration and inclusivity in city initiatives, as per the City of Dallas.
Notably recognized for her extensive community work, Mrs. Myrtis Evans, a prominent figure in South Oak Cliff, has devoted over 30 years to advocating for improved living conditions and stronger community ties. As the newsletter reported, Evans' leadership has been central to establishing neighborhood watch programs and beautification projects across District 4. A similar focus on community leadership was attributed to Mr. Daymond Lavine, who, as president of the Brentwood–Trinity Heights Community Action Group, has worked for better public safety and resident life quality.
Council Member Johnson recently engaged with the historic 10th Street neighborhood, discussing challenges like aging infrastructure and the pressures of gentrification. According to the City of Dallas, Johnson committed to ensuring that these communities receive equitable investments to preserve their history and support their future. "We cannot allow our historic communities to be forgotten," Johnson said, highlighting the importance of recognizing the area's cultural significance while striving for progress.
The newsletter also gave a shoutout to the recent National Night Out event, labeling it a testimony to the community's unity and spirit. Held on October 7, the event's success was partly thanks to various partners, including Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux and City Manager Kim Tolbert, and was marked by performances from local school bands and cheer squads. Council Member Johnson and team extended their gratitude to residents, affirming that such events demonstrate the benefits of communal participation.
