Haidar Alfadawi has awakened from a two-month medically induced coma after being struck by a vehicle driven by Murtadha Alizairij in Dearborn, an incident linked to a business dispute. "It certainly is a miracle," said family attorney Amir Makled, as Alfadawi begins a lengthy recovery focused on physical therapy, as reported by CBS News Detroit.
"There's glimmers of a smile from him from time to time. And so that gives the family a lot of hope," Makled added, highlighting the small signs of progress. Alizairij, who faces multiple charges including assault with intent to murder, turned himself in and is expected to appear in court for a pretrial hearing in early December. "We've been in constant communication with his brothers, his family, they're hopeful that justice will be served at the hands of the individual that caused this harm to Mr. Alfadawi," quoted Makled, according to CBS News Detroit.
Haider Alfadawi was injured in a hit-and-run, adding to previous family tragedy when his 6-year-old daughter was killed by a speeding driver in 2021 in Dearborn. Their attorney, Amir Makled, said, "We want justice for Haider. We want to confirm that he’s going to have a full recovery," and also said, "For weeks, his family lived with uncertainty and fear, unsure if he would ever open his eyes again. Today, seeing him awake, responsive, and showing small signs of recognition has given everyone a renewed sense of hope." The family has received support from the community during his recovery, as per FOX 2 Detroit and PEOPLE.
