With winter looming on the horizon, Denver residents were briefed on the upcoming cold snap. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Denver, CO, reported a mostly cloudy sky and temperatures hovering around 28°F earlier today.
According to the National Weather Service, the city can anticipate partly sunny conditions with a high near 62°F for the remainder of the day. However, tonight's weather is expected to shift, potentially causing travel disruptions. The NWS outlined a 60% chance of precipitation with a mix of rain showers evolving into snowfall, and winds could gust as high as 31 mph, signifying a blustery night ahead.
The outlook doesn't get much warmer over the weekend. Saturday presents a 50% chance of snow, primarily before 8 am, with less than a half inch of new snow accumulation possible, while Sunday offers a slight respite in sunlight before a 20% chance of snow after 11 am clouds the skies once again.
Travellers might want to plan for the beginning of next week as well. Monday forecasts sunny skies with a high near 40°F, yet a slight chance of snow returns Tuesday night. As we march deeper into the week, the potential for snow persists. Winter-like conditions are expected this weekend with cold temperatures and possibly snow, the NWS stated in a Hazardous Weather Outlook, while underscoring the anticipated light snowfall amounts and chilly temperatures that could make roads slippery.
For those taking to the mountains this weekend, the NWS warns of more substantial snowfall, with up to six inches possible in the northern mountains, which could transform travel conditions into a more arduous affair. A second round of snow is projected to hit the mountains on Sunday, which may make the already-difficult travel conditions worse throughout the day.
