Detroit community groups held a turkey distribution event to help families with food needs. Thousands of turkeys and side dishes were given out with the help of about 200 volunteers, including Semaj J. Morgan and Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris. The event was organized in partnership with Walmart and the Sound Mind Sound Body Foundation, according to ClickOnDetroit.

Lovey Thomas, a turkey recipient at the event, said she is grateful for the turkey and looks forward to preparing a Thanksgiving meal for her family and neighbors. She told CBS News Detroit, "The motivation to come here was so that I could prepare a Thanksgiving meal and share it with someone that's deserving."

America’s Community Council in Detroit held a turkey giveaway that drew a mile-long line of residents. Odie Fakhouri, CEO of ACC, said, "It’s vitally important, especially given everything we’ve seen with SNAP benefits and food insecurities. We’re here to fill the gap," as mentioned by FOX 2 Detroit. The America’s Community Council also hosts weekly food distributions for people in need.
