The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) is gearing up for another milestone in Detroit, hosting two high-stakes games as a part of its Takeover Tour, as per reports from FOX 2 Detroit and ClickOnDetroit. Detroit's Little Caesars Arena is set to feature the Vancouver Goldeneyes against the Boston Fleet on January 3, 2026, followed by a face-off between the New York Sirens and Montréal Victoire on March 28, proving the city's capacity to attract major women’s hockey events.
Last year's Takeover Tour game in Detroit broke records, drawing 14,288 fans – the highest attendance for a professional women's hockey game in the U.S. This robust support for women's hockey is noteworthy, given Detroit's lack of a home team in the league. Ryan Gustafson, President and CEO of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment remarked, "Detroit has proven it’s a destination for world-class women’s sports," according to FOX 2 Detroit.
Tickets for the upcoming games are seeing a phased release, with a presale starting on November 13, followed by a general sale kicking off on November 14. The Takeover Tour itself, has expanded this year to include 16 location-neutral games in 11 cities across the United States and Canada, bringing professional women’s hockey to new markets and dedicated fans, detailed by ClickOnDetroit.
Amy Scheer, PWHL Executive Vice President of Business Operations, emphasized the league's commitment to growth and fan engagement. "The passion and support from fans, and the enthusiasm from cities eager to engage with our league, have fueled our ambition to grow the Tour for Season Three," Scheer told WXYZ. The city's history of setting attendance milestones highlights the escalating interest in women's hockey, with Detroit hosting the millionth PWHL fan in history.
