Tragedy struck University City last Thursday when a pedestrian was fatally injured in a hit-and-run incident. According to FOX 29, Rosa Mar Espinosa Rodas, 41, was hit near the intersection of 36th and Market Streets by a vehicle driven by Shamir Miller. Miller, 30, reportedly kept driving after the initial crash. Subsequently a Buick was struck by Miller's vehicle, and a 41-year-old woman, the driver, sustained neck and back injuries now being treated in the hospital and listed in stable condition.

Miller's vehicle, a black 2012 Honda Accord, continued eastbound after hitting Espinosa Rodas, who was allegedly crossing Market at the time of the incident. As per a detailed account from CBS News Philadelphia, after the second collision, Miller attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended near 32nd and Market Streets.

Law enforcement has since charged Miller with murder, homicide by vehicle, and aggravated assault among other charges. While the investigation into the cause of the crash continues, officials have not yet disclosed additional details. It was noted by NBC Philadelphia that Espinosa Rodas, the victim of the hit-and-run, was likely on her lunch break from a nearby business at the time she was struck.

It was reported that medics pronounced Espinosa Rodas dead on the scene at 3:54 p.m.
