
A fatal incident on the streets of East Las Vegas claimed the life of a pedestrian yesterday evening, according to local law enforcement. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that the man, said to be between 40 and 50 years of age, was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche while attempting to cross S. Nellis Boulevard, just south of E. Sahara Avenue. The collision occurred just after 5:50 p.m., as per a report by News 3 LV.
Details from the investigation provided by the police indicated that the pedestrian was not within a marked or implied crosswalk at the time of the accident, the driver of the vehicle involved stayed at the scene and appeared not to be impaired. The man who was hit was rushed to Sunrise Hospital by medical crews, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The driver’s instantaneous stop and lack of impairment have been noted in the police files, and the crash is still under ongoing investigation. The aforementioned incident brings the tally of traffic-related deaths within the LVMPD's jurisdiction to a concerning figure of 146 for the year.
