Power management giant Eaton is intensifying its presence in North Carolina with a nearly $7 million investment aimed at expanding its aerospace components manufacturing operations in the Town of Middlesex, Nash County. Governor Josh Stein broke the news, describing the enhancement as "a future of flight" for the state traditionally known as the "first in flight," according to an official statement on the Governor's Office website.
The investment will bolster the workforce with an addition of 30 jobs, and these positions are expected to inject over $1.7 million into the local economy through annual payroll. Eaton, which has been part of the Middlesex landscape since 1976, manufactures critical components for both commercial and defense customers, including a range of fluid conveyance products like hose and tubing. Eaton's Middlesex plant last saw an expansion in 1982, and now, it will spread its wings further by 40,000 square feet to accommodate a new distribution center.
Emphasizing the company's commitment to efficiency and customer service, Traci Melville, President of Eaton's Fluid and Electrical Distribution Division, said in a statement, "By expanding our footprint and creating new jobs, we are well positioned for sustained growth and long-term success." The new distribution center will enable Eaton to augment its global aerospace customer support, Melville explained.
The expansion is supported in part by the One North Carolina Fund, which requires Eaton Aeroquip LLC to hit certain job creation and capital investment targets before receiving a performance-based grant of $100,000. According to the Governor's Office announcement, the fund demands a dollar-for-dollar match from local governments, and, only upon this condition being satisfied the awards are disbursed.
Local leaders are lauding Eaton's choice as a sign of confidence in the region's business environment and workforce. N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley highlighted the move as beneficial for the local supply chain and economy. On a similar note, N.C. Senator Lisa S. Barnes expressed her dedication to fostering a region where "businesses grow and communities thrive," according to statements obtained by the Governor's Office. Representative Allen Chesser echoed these sentiments, noting the difference these new jobs will make on Nash County families.
Multiple entities have come together in this joint venture, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, Nash Community College, and Duke Energy, aiding in this strategic development for Eaton and Middlesex.
