The Elk Grove Police Department, in partnership with Cosumnes Fire, is calling upon community generosity for their annual Toy Project aimed at bringing holiday cheer to families in need. In a statement made by Elk Grove's official website, the initiative aims to provide toys to preselected, underprivileged families during the holiday season. The toys collected at various locations are delivered by volunteers from both the police and fire departments.

Application submissions for the program opened on November 3, with the cut-off date tomorrow, the Elk Grove Police Department reminded the community via a Facebook post. Eligible families residing within the City of Elk Grove, Cosumnes CSD, or the Wilton Fire Protection District may apply, with their children's joy depending on the goodwill of their neighbors. Located at a variety of strategic spots, dedicated bins are ready to accept toy donations. These stations include seven different fire stations and the Elk Grove Police Department Service Center.

Qualifying for the program means meeting certain income criteria, which vary based on the number of people living within a household. For example, a family of 1-3 members can qualify with a monthly household income at or below $2,400, or a yearly income that does not exceed $29,000. These thresholds adjust slightly upward for larger families, reaching up to $3,200 monthly for households with eight or more members, according to the qualifications outlined on Elk Grove's official website.

Those interested in applying must bring various proofs to the Elk Grove Police Department Service Center, including identification such as a driver’s license, proof of residence like a current utility bill, and proof of income which can be a paycheck stub or SSI verification among other documents. The city's official website also states that evidence of each child's age is required, whether through a birth certificate, passport, or state-issued ID.
