An Elyria man, previously convicted of attempted murder, has been sentenced to an additional 39-44 years behind bars for assaulting law enforcement officers during his court sentencing. Andrew Davison, aged 43, who is currently serving time for attempted murder and drug trafficking, engaged in a violent altercation with deputies in a Lorain County courtroom, which resulted in one deputy being hospitalized with serious injuries. According to a report from Cleveland19, the courtroom incident involved Davison stating, "I'm not going back to prison again, you're going to have to kill me," prior to the skirmish.

Davison's recent courtroom behavior was detailed in a release by the Elyria Police Department, noting that previously, after being convicted of the attempted murder where he stabbed a man "in broad daylight," he showed no remorse. The release also highlighted the confrontation on November 19, when Davison attacked officers following his sentencing. Sergeant Michael Walker of the Elyria Police and two Lorain County Sheriff Deputies were the victims of Davison’s onslaught. "Davison took no accountability for his actions and, after being sentenced, stated that he would rather die than go to prison," described the release obtained by FOX8 News. In the midst of the trial, Davison, defending himself, cross-examined Sgt. Walker, who, along with other officers, had tried to restrain him during the violent outbreak in the courthouse. As soon as Davison was found guilty, he was handed the hefty prison sentence by Judge Giovanna Bremke to run consecutively with his previous sentences.

Felony charges against Davison included multiple counts of felonious assault against the law enforcement officers involved in the incident. Deputy Jeff Smith, only two weeks into his position with the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and a retired Lorain police officer, was the deputy severely injured, citing injuries such as four broken ribs and a cracked sternum, as detailed by Lorain County Sheriff Jack Hall in an interview with Cleveland19. The confrontation also saw attempts to gouge an officer's eyes out and the use of a stun gun on Davison before he was eventually subdued.

During his trial, Davison chose to represent himself and, as his own defense, called himself to the stand, as reported by the Chronicle. The Elyria Police Department emphasized the danger Davison posed to the community by labeling him a "career criminal" and acknowledging the relief of having him behind bars. "Our community is safer with Davison serving a lengthy prison sentence, and justice was served," the department said in the release cited by FOX8 News. Sgt. Walker, still recovering from injuries sustained in the fight, was commended for his bravery and quick response during the incident.
