Early this morning, first responders rushed to the scene of a reported fire at Eos Energy Enterprises, a battery manufacturing facility in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania. Fire units were dispatched to 200 Braddock Ave. following initial calls that came in around 4:30 a.m. Multiple fire companies responded, according to WPXI.
The incident, which sparked a significant emergency response, involved batteries catching fire within the structure. Despite the reports, Eos Energy Enterprises relayed a conflicting message stating, "there was no fire." Instead, an electrical short occurred during standard testing operations. "In accordance with standard protocols, emergency crews were called and were on site. We are working to determine the root cause of the incident and taking steps to return the facility to full operation," the company assured in a statement sourced by WPXI. They also confirmed that the situation was fully contained, with no employees injured and no risk posed to the surrounding community.
While Eos Energy Enterprises downplayed the incident, the presence of Allegheny County Hazmat and the fire marshal on site underscored the seriousness of the situation. These authorities were investigating the incident further, as reported by WPXI. Information from Pittsburgh's Action News 4 also indicated that the Allegheny County Fire Marshal and members of the county's Hazardous Response team were actively working at the scene.
Details about the cause of the electrical short remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing. Although the emergency response was substantial, it was reported that no injuries have been reported at this time. Local news outlets have contacted officials for more information, but the matter is still developing as of now.
