A high-speed chase led by Michigan State Police’s Trooper 2 helicopter on a Detroit freeway resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old man from Farmington Hills, after he was caught driving at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour and later attempted to conceal a firearm. The aerial patrol observed the speeding vehicle late Thursday on the Lodge Freeway, according to CBS News Detroit.
Following the pursuit, the teen pulled over at a home in Oakland County, where he was seen attempting to hide what appeared to be a firearm inside a box. MSP's FLIR-equipped helicopter captured this sequence of events, leading ground troopers to the scene for apprehension, as reported by New Media Detroit. During the arrest, authorities recovered multiple guns from the suspect. "First, driving recklessly continues to be a problem" Michigan State Police 1st Lieutenant Mike Shaw remarked in a statement quoted by CBS News Detroit. "Second, great work by the crew of Trooper 2 and the use of technology in order to get these firearms off the street," he continued.
Charges against the young man are pending following a prosecutor's review. ClickOnDetroit reported that a full video capturing the suspect's attempt to discard the weapon, filmed from Trooper 2 can be viewed on their website. Further updates on the case are expected upon the completion of the county prosecutor's review.
