Early Sunday morning, a decommissioned power plant along Highway 146 in Bacliff caught fire. Local fire departments responded to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading. The fire at the PHR Peakers Plant produced a large plume of smoke moving north. The Kemah Police Department advised residents to avoid the area and protect themselves from the smoke, according to KHOU.

A fire at a plant near 29th Street and Avenue J was first reported by the Bacliff Volunteer Fire Department before 4 a.m. Photos shared by the department show heavy smoke coming from the site. The police have stated that the area, currently covered in smoke from burning powerlines and cooling towers, should be avoided. In a statement obtained by the Houston Chronicle, the Kemah Police Department said, "All residents are advised to avoid the area and take precautions not to expose (themselves) to the smoke."

A fire occurred at a temporarily shut-down plant in Texas City, and no injuries were reported since no one was on site. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Several local fire departments responded and worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby brushland. Smoke from the fire was visible and shared on social media.
