The Fort Bend Independent School District is planning rezoning and will hold community discussions and feedback sessions. The district aims to balance enrollment and use campus space efficiently. Enrollment peaked between 2023 and 2024 and is now around 78,000 students. Some neighborhoods have fewer new families, and the district is reviewing plans for future school boundaries, Deputy Superintendent Beth Martinez said, according to KHOU.

Parents are concerned that the zoning changes could affect where their children attend school and may also impact property values, as proximity to certain schools can influence home decisions. San Juanita Franco said that while some rezoning may be necessary, she is focused on her child’s education and safety. Elisa Hrachovina told Click2Houston that she considers school assignments when investing in a community.

Fort Bend Independent School District is planning zoning changes to reduce overcrowding in some schools and increase enrollment in others over the next five years. A district map shows potential trends, which could result in some streets being split and children attending different schools. Martinez said, "We have what's called Let's Connect and that can be found on our district's website. And that's a way for the community, parents, anyone to engage with staff," as per KHOU. The School Boundary Advisory Committee will guide discussions before any proposals go to the Board of Trustees.
