Fort Worth residents, if you fancy yourself a dab hand at pickleball or are simply looking to slam some wintertime fun, you're in luck. The Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department has dialed up this season's recreational offerings with the announcement of the Winter Classic Pickleball Tournament, setting the stage for a spirited showdown on December 5-6 at the Diamond Hill Community Center, according to the City of Fort Worth.
Registration details spilled forth in an announcement from the city. For those eager to demonstrate their pickleball prowess, entry fees are pegged at $15 for the solo artists in both men's and women's singles divisions, and $40 will get a mixed-doubles team in the mix. Winners will emerge, trophies will be hoisted, with first-, second, and third-place finishers cementing their spots in local pickleball lore in each competition level.
As places are reportedly going like hotcakes, interested players should get a wriggle on and secure their spot on the court. With racquet in hand and eye on the prize, this communal event is less about being crowned the undisputed pickleball monarch and more about the pride of participating in a sport that's sweeping the nation like a storm. But hey, a little competition never hurt anyone.
