Following a deadly fire that consumed a home in Washington County, resulting in three fatalities, four individuals have been taken into custody, facing multiple serious charges. According to Fox Baltimore, the suspects hail from Baltimore and surrounding areas, with the tragic event sparking a thorough investigation by the Maryland State Police and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
On November 18, shortly after 5:00 a.m., first responders addressed the blaze in the 13,000 block of National Pike in Clear Spring. The Maryland State Police have stated, signs of foul play were evident amidst the ruins of the home, including the use of accelerants and signs of trauma inflicted upon the victims before the fire.
The deceased, identified as Brittany Ray, Harold Flichman, and Brianna Mae Weishaar, were all inhabitants of the ill-fated residence. The Maryland State Police believe the incident was targeted, as all signs pointed to the fire being an act of violence rather than a mishap. WMAR-2 News notes that local officials are treating the investigation as a triple murder.
The suspects include Darnell Hawkins, 47, Maurice Mouzon, 46, both from Baltimore, Kierra White, 35, of Glen Burnie, and Tony Smith, 43, of Hagerstown. Hawkins and Smith are each facing three counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree arson, amid other related offenses. Meanwhile, Mouzon has been charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, distribution of narcotics, and handgun violations and will also face separate drug-related charges.
Kierra White's charges pertain to her alleged role as an accessory after the fact to murder. All of the accused are currently being held without bond, with law enforcement officials signaling that further arrests might be forthcoming. The Maryland State Police encourage anyone with additional information to come forward and reach out to the Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack at 301-766-3800, as reported by Fox Baltimore.
