In a major stride for local law enforcement, the Gahanna Division of Police announced over the weekend that it has achieved a significant milestone by receiving the Advanced Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (C.A.L.E.A.) - marking a first in the division's history. According to a social media post by the division, this accolade is the international gold standard for policing, highlighting the exceptional standards the Gahanna police have upheld.
The journey to accreditation was not a mere formality but an intensive process, evidenced by the week-long virtual assessment and a subsequent three-day on-site audit held in August. High-ranking officials, including Mayor Jadwin, Chief Spence, and Safety Director Becker, made the trip to Jacksonville, Florida, to advocate for their division before the panel of C.A.L.E.A. Commissioners. Unlike many agencies that received corrective mandates, the Gahanna Division was awarded its accreditation "with no conditions," according to the division's announcement.
The commendable result speaks volumes to the division's adherence to the rigorous standards set forth by the accrediting body. The full CALEA Commission, comprised of 21 members, conferred the Advanced Accreditation upon the Gahanna police, validating their methods and practices as aligned with the highest international benchmarks. The division proudly shared the news, emphasizing that every member played a pivotal role in this collective success.
