On November 4th, Governor Greg Abbott took steps to preserve Texas' historical legacy by appointing two individuals to the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board. According to the Office of the Texas Governor's official announcement, Elizabeth Factor and Jelain Chubb are set to serve terms on the board, which is dedicated to bolstering the conditions for archival and records storage across the state.
Elizabeth Factor from Austin, newly appointed to the board, carries the task to help improve storage conditions and the preservation of significant documents that chronicle Texas’ rich history. She comes equipped with a background in law and history, holding both a Juris Doctor from Yale and an undergraduate degree from Columbia. Factor's experience extends beyond her professional role at IntraBio, Inc., as she also engages in volunteer work with Scrivener Company. Her term will extend until February 1, 2027.
Returning board member Jelain Chubb is known for her seasoned experience in the realm of archival management. As the state archivist at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Chubb brings a wealth of expertise to the board. Her academic credentials include a BA in History and two Master's degrees, one in Applied History and another in Library and Information Science, making her uniquely qualified for the position. Her renewed term is set to continue until February 1, 2029.
The reappointment of Chubb comes as no surprise, given her extensive involvement with archival and professional historian circles, including the Society of American Archivists and the Texas State Historical Association. Through her dedication, Chubb has established herself as a respected figure in preserving the narrative of Texas. These appointments reflect Governor Abbott's commitment to safeguarding the stories of Texas, ensuring that the state's history will be well-kept for generations yet to come.
