Governor Kathy Hochul, along with Representative Adriano Espaillat and other delegates, arrived in Santiago, Dominican Republic, to promote cooperation between New York State and the Caribbean nation. The visit, taking place from yesterday through tomorrow, focuses on areas such as economic development, climate resilience, and cultural exchange.
“New York City is home to the largest Dominican-Americans diaspora, and I will always be committed to celebrating Dominican history, art and culture in our state,” Hochul said in an official announcement. The visit focused on promoting mutual cooperation, with discussions scheduled to address areas such as trade expansion and enhanced disaster response coordination. Representative Espaillat underscored the Dominican community’s cultural and economic influence in New York, noting that it represents more than 40 percent of the Dominican immigrant population in the United States.
The Governor’s schedule included a meeting with Dominican President Luis Abinader to discuss projects that could benefit both New York State and the Dominican Republic. When she arrived, Hochul met with Santiago Mayor José Ulises Rodríguez Guzmá. During their stay, the delegation will also meet with local community groups to promote investment and tourism that can support growth in both places.
