In a bid to bolster employment opportunities for Coloradans in skilled trades and health care professions, Governor Jared Polis, alongside Arnold Ventures, has disclosed plans to funnel millions into educational programs aimed at readying participants for in-demand, well-compensated jobs. This effort is a fragment of the larger Colorado Partnership for Proven Initiatives, a philanthropic endeavor that boasts a $20 million pool to improve the economic status of the locals, according to the Colorado Governor's Office.
The announced investment totals $4.5 million and the program's design called Ascent is expected to replicate Project QUEST, an evidence-based platform which historically aided individuals through career education fruition and subsequent job procurement, the initiative targets 250 participants across CrossPurpose campuses in Denver, Englewood, and Arvada and the comprehensive weaving of state and philanthropic resources will purportedly underwrite full expenses including tuition and other essentials like uniforms and licensure exams. “This investment is about strengthening Colorado’s workforce and ensuring that opportunity is within reach for everyone who calls our state home,” Governor Polis told the Colorado Governor's Office.
A critical component of Ascent is its close alliance with local employers for curricula that directly correspond to industry needs, ensuring participants emerge with relevant competencies for workforce integration. Jason Janz, CEO of CrossPurpose, emphasized the promise of this alliance, noting, “Our Leaders Program has already reached more than 3,000 people across the state online and in person, and we look forward to further accelerating Colorado’s ability to eliminate poverty through good jobs and the financial stability they provide,” during his dialogue with the Colorado Governor's Office.
Again judging the program's effectiveness, Ascent has earmarked 2026 and 2027 for stringent evaluation to validate its goals regarding participant enrollment, educational achievement, and job placement success; Jon Baron, President of Coalition for Evidence-Based Policy explained the merit of this model by highlighting that "Governor Polis and Arnold Ventures are showing the nation how governments can use evidence about what works to make real progress on economic mobility" as obtained by the Colorado Governor's Office. As part of a measured and methodical approach, Arnold Ventures, a philanthropic organization with a focus on research and evidence-backed solutions, has joined forces with the State of Colorado and the nonprofit Coalition for Evidence-Based Policy to operationalize this initiative.
