A routine delivery run in the Heights turned chaotic Wednesday night when two drivers allegedly pulled guns on each other and opened fire, leaving a woman with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to police. Officers swarmed a warehouse parking lot and a nearby residential intersection as investigators tried to untangle who fired first and why. The woman was rushed to a hospital and is expected to recover.
Police: Two Scenes Tied To Same Shootout
In a post on X, the Houston Police Department said officers were called to two connected locations: a warehouse parking lot in the 400 block of North Shepherd Drive and the intersection of 10th and Dorothy Streets. Investigators worked both scenes Wednesday night, collecting shell casings and talking to witnesses. Police have not released the names of either driver.
Both Drivers Working Deliveries When Shots Rang Out
FOX 26 Houston reported that both people involved were delivery drivers for a home-delivery company operating out of the North Shepherd warehouse. The confrontation allegedly started in the warehouse parking lot, then spilled into the street before shots were fired at the 10th and Dorothy intersection.
The female driver was hit in the leg and taken to a local hospital, where police say she is expected to recover, according to FOX 26 Houston. The male driver stayed at the scene and was taken in for questioning.
Heights Already On Edge After Earlier Violence
The Heights has had more than its share of tense moments this year. In July, a seven hour SWAT standoff in the neighborhood ended when officers shot a woman, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Case Headed To Prosecutors After Investigation
Lt. Larry Crowson said the department plans to turn over its findings to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office so prosecutors can review any potential charges, according to FOX 26 Houston. Police have also asked anyone who saw what happened or has information about the dispute to contact the Houston Police Department.
