It's time for the eco-conscious youth of Hillsborough County to shine once again in the realm of creative expression with a cause. The Solid Waste Management Department is calling on students from the third to the twelfth grade to participate in their Third Annual Waste Reduction and Recycling Art Contest.
The art contest, rooted in environmentalism, comes with a straightforward yet impactful theme: "Small Acts, Big Impact -- Show how everyday choices help reduce waste at home and in your community." A peek at the contest website clarifies the requirements: submissions are due by November 30, and as one might expect, the creations have to be the result of an student's effort - no artificial intelligence shortcuts. That means each stroke, pixel, or pasted piece of paper needs to come straight from the young artist's hand (or mouse pad), according to Hillsborough County's announcement.
Aside from the chance to be recognized as a passionate environmental advocate through their art, there's the tantalizing offer of waste reduction-themed prizes. Getting your artwork judged by the keen eyes of the Hillsborough County staff should be enticing enough, with winners to be selected in January 2026 and celebrated the following month. Participants are constrained only by their imagination, urged to draw inspiration from local recycling rules and Hillsborough’s own waste reduction programs for their pieces. For the nitty-gritty on contest rules and how to enter, future environmental art stars can hit up the contest form.
