Authorities in Holly, Michigan, responded to a spill at an industrial site that affected a nearby retention pond. Residents reported the substance as milky white, and it has been tentatively identified as a petroleum-based product, as reported by CBS News Detroit.
Holly Police and Fire Departments reported a localized chemical discharge at a manufacturing facility in Holly, with cleanup underway by the company and oversight by EGLE and Oakland County Hazmat. Officials said there is no air quality or public health risk, as the nearby retention pond effectively contained the spill.
Emergency crews and environmental agencies, including the Oakland County Water Resource Commission, continue onsite efforts until the area is confirmed contaminant-free, according to the Holly Police Department on their Facebook page. "We are thankful to the Oakland County Water Resource Commission for their assistance during testing today, and the many environmental investigative agencies who joined Holly public safety and public works teams to quickly identify, contain and resolve this incident," the fire department stated.
