Joseth "Joe" Limon, a Texas man, was sentenced to three years in prison for evading over $8.7 million in employment taxes from 2013 to 2018 while running Platinum Employment Group Inc., a Houston-based labor supply company. He was also ordered by U.S. District Judge Lee H. Rosenthal to pay the full restitution amount, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Limon created a second staffing company, Rockwell Staffing LLC, under a relative’s name to avoid IRS collections and falsely claimed it had been a victim of identity theft. He had previously pleaded guilty to the charges on May 27, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Limon had previously claimed identity theft related to his second staffing business. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Shirin Hakimzadeh and Trial Attorney Curtis Weidler of the Tax Division prosecuted the case. Judge Rosenthal said Limon "just took from the United States" instead of the hardworking persona he claimed, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
