Mayor John Whitmire is calling on Houstonians to come together in commemoration of our veterans with a ceremony and parade for this year's Veterans Day. The city is set to honor the service and sacrifices of military personnel, inviting the public to partake in the traditional Veterans Day Ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, as announced on the official City of Houston website.

Home to the nation's largest veteran population, Texas hosts more than 250,000 veterans, and Houston's tribute is a significant event in the statewide acknowledgment of American servicemen and women. The ceremony will feature a keynote speaker, celebrating local heroes and commencing at 10 a.m. According to a statement obtained by the City of Houston, the event will include "acknowledgments and a distinguished keynote speaker recognizing our local heroes."

A poignant moment will be observed at the exact time of the signing of the Armistice, marking the end of World War I, with a Moment of Silence set at the 11th hour on the 11th day. Following the solemn remembrance, the "American Heroes Parade" is scheduled to bring the city's streets to life, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Dallas and Bagby streets, with a route that weaves through the heart of downtown, as per the City of Houston website.

Participation is widespread, featuring local veteran organizations, ROTC units, bands, and community supporters lining up to march in this grand display of respect. Kicking off the parade are the ones who will proceed east on Dallas, turning north on Louisiana, making their way west on Walker, heading south on Smith, and then west on Lamar, concluding at Lamar and Bagby. As the City of Houston notes, "This parade is open to the public, and all are welcome to join along the parade route."
